The role of magnesium

Magnesium plays a tremendously important role in many processes that take place in our body. There is only a relatively small amount of magnesium in our body: almost two tablespoons full, about 20–30 g of magnesium, are present in the body in total.

Magnesium – good prospects for muscles and nerves

Ask your friends what they think magnesium is needed for in the body. The most common answer will probably be: “Magnesium is good for the muscles”.

In fact, the mineral has a great influence on muscle tone, i.e., the level of tension of a muscle. Adequate magnesium supply is important to ensure a balance between tension and relaxation of the muscles.

The role of magnesium

  • A sufficient supply of magnesium is essential for the proper functioning of all muscles. The heart muscle, which works  day after day, also needs magnesium.
  • All areas related to energy provision and processing are only made possible by magnesium, as it is involved in enzymes as a component or as a coenzyme. Without magnesium, our body would not be able to use carbohydrates or fats for energy, for example.
  • In addition, magnesium ensures the stability of the cell membrane and also controls its permeability. But that's not all about the control function

In addition, magnesium is necessary for bone strength.

With this cluster of functions, it is fair to say: magnesium is vital!
